I have been facing Russian chauvinism starting from the earliest years of my life. I was blamed of being Ukrainian by Russian friends and relatives. Those people just have strong ressentiment against Ukraine as a different society with its own culture and political life.

One reason I *think* many can't see Ukrainians as oppressed is because (and this is a WORKING THEORY) they see them as too white to be systemically abused or colonized to evoke sympathy.
